JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE SCORES FIRST OSCAR NOMINATION

Justin Timberlake earned his very first Oscar nomination on Tuesday (Jan. 24) when his No.
1 smash “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” from the animated film Trolls was nominated for Best
Original Song.

The Academy Awards nod, which he shares with Max Martin and Karl Johan Schuster, could
lead to another big trophy for the pop superstar. In the past, he’s won nine Grammys
and four Emmys.
But JT faces stiff competition in the category. Challengers include “Auditions (The Fools
Who Dream)” from La La Land, “The Empty Chair” from Jim: The James Foley Story, “City
of Stars” from La La Land, and “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana.

The latter was composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who becomes one step closer to EGOT
(Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) status. “You know, I feel fine,” the “Hamilton”
creator told The Associated Press after learning of the nomination. “I am thrilled
to get to go to the Oscars, honestly. I won’t even be a little modest about that.
I’ve been a fan of the Oscars telecast since I was a kid—I used to memorize Billy
 Crystal’s musical monologues.”
Timberlake’s collaborator Pharrell is also celebrating three nominations for Hidden Figures,
which he produced. The film is up for Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Octavia Spencer),
Best Screenplay, and Best Picture. “Thank you to the Academy for three #HiddenFigures
nominations!” tweeted Pharrell.

Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the 89th Academy Awards is set to air live from the Dolby Theatre
in Hollywood on Feb. 26 on ABC. See a full list of nominees here.
